Joshua Adler and Elizabeth Jones are seasoned cyclists, wine enthusiasts, cooks and world travelers. They met after working as chefs for a renowned summer arts program. After realizing that they shared the same passion for food, wine, cycling, and the California wine country, they decided to create Bacchus Bicycle Tours so that they could share that passion with others.

Before founding Bacchus Bicycle Tours, Josh led luxury cycling and wine tours in France. He designed and led tours in Burgundy, Provence, and the Loire Valley, and twice climbed the Alpe D'Huez. In San Francisco he has been known to work as a bicycle mechanic, retail wine associate, and a teacher. His longest bike ride started in San Francisco and ended three weeks later at the Grand Canyon, where he stayed to work as night clerk at the Grand Canyon Lodge.

Elizabeth has sold sustainably farmed caviar to the America's top restaurants and retail food stores including The French Laundry, Charlie Trotter's, and Dean and Deluca.

Before Bacchus, she cycled through the Czech Republic and France. She's a photographer, a chef, and an urban explorer. Besides showing you the best of wine country, her summer highlight will be a six hundred mile ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles as a participant of the AIDS/Lifecycle.

Bicycling Magazine (Jan/Feb '06 Issue) listed Sonoma County as one of "The 7 Greatest Rides on Earth"— alongside the likes of Tuscany, Crested Butte, and Moab. Healdsburg truly is a pedaling paradise, and a definite "must ride".

RIDES The pace of our rides is casual and relaxed. Our goal is not to go the fastest, or the furthest. Instead, we take small roads that wind through the vineyards, stopping along the way to drink with our friends and take photos in the vines. We provide maps and directions so you can explore at your own pace, and full van support in case you need extra water, snacks, or a little help carrying your wine. We arrange our tours so that they are comfortable for everyone on a bike-- and give you the option to put in a few more miles in the saddle if you wish.

TASTINGS Bacchus Bicycle Tours carefully selects wineries which offer beautiful settings, knowledgeable staff, and, of course, incredible wine. As the vineyard owner tends to the vines to produce optimal fruit, we cultivate relationships with winemakers and wine professionals so that you can be assured a perfect experience at every stop. We typically stop at two or three wineries along the route and more tasting opportunities are always possible. Whether you can’t tell the difference between pinot and zinfandel, or have an ever-expanding wine cellar, you will love sipping wines and listening to stories of the wine country.

Indulge in a gourmet picnic! A feast for all the senses—a true bacchanal! Imagine fresh salads made from local produce, organic fruit and freshly baked artisan breads. Because we love you, we include caviar, smoked salmon and home-cured meats presented on platters that would please the queen!

Once famous for peach orchards and wagon tracks, the fruit trees of the Dry Creek Valley have slowly given way to a plenitude of chardonnay, pinot noir, sauvignon blanc, and zinfandel. We travel along scenic back roads through the Dry Creek Valley to taste some of these wines and experience the terroir.

The route edges vineyards, pastures, and wineries and provides spectacular vistas of the Mayacamas Mountains. You will have the chance to sample an array of organic and biodynamic wines as we ride out to a fabulous private picnic lunch. Our tour ends in Healdsburg Square with the opportunity to shop, taste more wines, or enjoy some locally made gelato before we head back to San Francisco.
